In early January, the Serbian sniper Dejan Beric, who had fought on the side of the ‘DNR’ (so called Donetsk People’s Republic) and resides in Russia, complained about the poor treatment of his fellow countrymen in the Russian army. According to him, the command of the 119th Airborne Assault Regiment, engaged in the conflict in Ukraine, refers to Serbian mercenaries as ‘gypsies,’ beats them, and sends into the offensive without equipment and ammunition.

Beric’s video statement appeared (currently deleted, author has a copy) on January 8 on his page on the Russian social network VK. The Russian BBC service was the first to notice the video.

Sitting in front of the camera in a “Putin’s Team” t-shirt, Beric explained that when the Serbs refused to participate in offensives with only rifles, they were threatened with a tribunal.
